The Feast of Trumpets or Yom Teruah (in Hebrew) is one of the Biblical Feast Days given to the children of Israel in ancient "Old Testament" times and by Hebrews in the "New Testament" times. Yahweh's Holy Days (as we have discussed in the teachings regarding the Feast days leading up to this one) are a blue print for His plan of salvation for mankind.
Let's look in the scriptures (The Holy Bible) and see what it says about this Festival Yom Teruah.
Leviticus 23:23-And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Lev 23:24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.
Lev 23:25 Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
Num 29:1 And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work: it is a day of blowing the trumpets unto you.
1.) The Feast of Trumpets is (as noted in the scriptures) on the first day of the seventh month. The seventh month of the biblical calendar is when the last 4 Festivals of the year (Feast of Trumpets, Day of Atonement, Feast of Booths/Tabernacles and the Last Great Day) take place.
2.) This is the only Festival out of the seven that begins on the new moon--the first day of the biblical month. The trumpet was sounded to announce every new month.
Num 10:10 Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God.
3.) The Hebrew word Teruah is used as the name of this Festival which means:
From H7321; clamor, that is, acclamation of joy or a battle cry; especially clangor of trumpets, as an alarm: - alarm, blow (-ing) (of, the) (trumpets), joy, jubile, loud noise, rejoicing, shout (-ing), (high, joyful) sound (-ing).
A primitive root; to mar (especially by breaking); figuratively to split the ears (with sound), that is, shout (for alarm or joy): - blow an alarm, cry (alarm, aloud, out), destroy, make a joyful noise, smart, shout (for joy), sound an alarm, triumph.
4.) Yom Teruah (Feast of Trumpets) is translated not only as a day of sounding of trumpets but also as a day of shouting. In Israel trumpets were used for rejoicing, praising and worshiping of Yahweh.
1Chron. 13:8 And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, and with singing, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.
2Chron. 5:12 Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:)
2Chron. 5:13 It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;
2Chron. 5:14 So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.
5.) Trumpets were used during times of war. Yahweh made a special promise to Israel regarding using the trumpet during warfare.
Num 10:9 And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.
Yahweh gave Joshua specific instructions on how to war over the occupied city of Jericho in the land of Canaan. It involved trumpets and shouting after walking around the city each day for seven days. The seventh day they circled the city seven times and afterward blew trumpets and shouted and the city walls came down and they then took over the city.
See the whole story in Joshua 6:2-20
Jos 6:3-5 And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.
(4) And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.
(5) And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.
6.) Blowing of the trumpet was also used to call an assembly and for a warning call.
See Numbers 10:1-10
Num 10:2 Make thee two trumpets of silver; of a whole piece shalt thou make them: that thou mayest use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the journeying of the camps.
7.) The opening of the Seven Seals were anounced by seven angels with trumpets.
